information for new customers... the basics: A translator translates words on a page. An interpreter translates spoken language. I am primarily a translator - working with the written word. I also accept consecutive interpreting assignments (interpreting 2 or 3 sentences at a time after the source person has spoken), in subject areas I am familiar with, or very occasionally, simultaneous interpreting (interpreting while the source person speaks).

Many linguists believe that everybody has just one native language. Even people who seem bilingual or trilingual generally have a single tongue they feel most comfortable in. Professional translators translate only into their mother tongue - as I translate only into English. My language pairs are: Spanish into English I prefer not to tackle inverse translating, but I can recommend reliable colleagues for the language combinations you need. |

format and delivery: I accept material on both paper and electronically, but I prefer Word, Power Point, Excel, html or similar, compatible formats. The finished project is returned to you in the format you specify. I am thoroughly familiar with Trados and other professional translation tools (CAT), and for each project I create one or more databases in Multiterm, Excel, or similar formats, providing you with a personalized resource. |
